Kelly Clarkson was the American Dream's personification in winning American Idol's inaugural season. The idea was that you could originate anyplace and be a celebrity with something tangible American audiences could hang on to and then, more important buying it. Her debut album, which she released in 2004, was an instant hit and she shifted to a different label, allowing her to exercise more control over her music and her subsequent album became one of the albums that sold the highest number of copies among American Idol alum. Her achievements include extensive touring and recording a number of Top Ten songs, publishing two albums that were multi-Platinum, and being a mentor and co-writing much her songs. In addition, she's won numerous distinctions. She's received 4 American Music Awards, twelve Billboard Music Awards, two Grammy Awards, and three MTV Video Music Awards. She has been nominated and won major music awards have totaled the number of 98.
