Taylor Swift may be the most rare of all pop stars. She was an artist who could effectively bridge the gap between pop and country and conquer the world. Swift shed her roots in country music like a second-skin, and revealed that she was the most refined pop sensibility in her time. Swift was the only singer/songwriter who knew how to take the popular zeitgeist out on the road. Swift's early songs, including her neo song in tribute to Tim McGraw, showed off her skills. The album from 2008 Fearless showcased a writer who was beginning to discover herself, and was able to draw a wide audience. The album ended up with a lot of reach not just on the U.S. where it racked up six platinum singles due to the Top Ten hits Love Story and the hit single You Belong with Me but throughout the globe, performing especially well with Canada, the U.K. Canada and Australia. Swift's next album Speak Now, released nearly two years following the debut, further consolidated this momentum. It propelled Swift to superstardom. Her popularity only increased over her next three albums -- Red (2012) 1989 (2014) and Reputation (2017) Reputation (2017) which saw her move into a realm of pop music that she had already been a part of. Although she slowed down the production of her folklore album, and Evermore albums in the year 2020, she was still at the forefront of pop music.
